Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, and Non-Affiliate parent-child dyads (N = 222) first indicated if 4 could happen real life; they then their level certainty that God make happen. Better gates can make fault-tolerant computation impossible

We consider fault-tolerant computation with formulas composed of noisy Boolean gates with two input wires. In our model all gates fail independently of each other and of the input. When a gate fails, it outputs the opposite of the correct output. It is known that if all gates fail with probability at least β2 = (3− √ 7)/4 ≈ 8.856%, faulttolerant computation is not possible. On the other hand, i...

God Can Hear But Does He Have Ears? Dissociations Between Psychological and Physiological Dimensions of Anthropomorphism

Anthropomorphism is a default strategy for making the unfamiliar familiar, but is it a uniform strategy? Do all dimensions of anthropomorphism “hang together”? We explored this question by involving adults (n = 99) in a speeded property-attribution task in which they decided, as quickly as possible, whether properties of two types— psychological and physiological—could be attributed to God. Par...

Leibniz's Ontological Proof of the Existence of God and the Problem of »Impossible Objects«

The core idea of the ontological proof is to show that the concept of existence is somehow contained in the concept of God, and that therefore God’s existence can be logically derived – without any further assumptions about the external world – from the very idea, or definition, of God. Now, G.W. Leibniz has argued repeatedly that the traditional versions of the ontological proof are not fully ...

The Possible ‘Impossible’ Turn

Turning back after engine failure during the take off phase of flight in a single engine aircraft is examined using a simplified analytical model. The important parameters are identified. The analysis shows that the optimum flight path is teardrop shaped with a 45◦ bank angle at stall velocity during the turn. The effects of engine failure altitude, wind direction and velocity, and bank angle o...
